Operetta New Year Concert “Evergreens”

A musical journey through classical masterpieces

Duration: 120 min
Language: Latvian
Premiere: 29/12/2022

On 29 December at 19.00 at the VEF Culture Palace, we will enjoy a sparkling festive feeling in all its splendour and diversity at the Operetta Theatre’s New Year concert “EVERGREENS”! The concert will highlight the passions of multi-sensational relationships, giving the audience the opportunity to experience the vivid and colourful stories of each musical performance.

Both guest soloists and Latvian artists will interpret a wide variety of music from the most beautiful genres of musical theatre: excerpts from Franz Lehár’s operettas “Land of Smiles”, “Caravich” and “Judith”, the duet “All I ask from you” from Andrew Lloyd Webber’s musical “The Phantom of the Opera”, Toreador couplets from Georges Bizet’s opera “Carmen”, Neapolitan songs (“O, sole mio!” etc.), sarsuelas, tangos, musical excerpts and many other popular pieces, as well as those less heard or even unheard in Latvia, but popular in other parts of the world. And, of course, as usual, we will also hear the music of Johann Strauss.

The concert will feature soloists Anta Jankovska (soprano/Italy), Jolanta Strikaite (soprano), Oleksandr Chuvpilo (tenor, soloist of Kijiv National Academic Operetta Theatre), Andrius Apsega (baritone, soloist of Kaunas State Musical Theatre), dancers Asnate Rikse and Kārlis Kemlers, as well as the Operetta Theatre Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Atvars Lakstīgalas. The concert will be hosted by Agija Ozoliņa-Kozlovska.

The soloists’ singing will be enriched by magnificent costumes, integrated choreography, lighting games and multimedia set design.

SPECIAL ADDITION: At 18.00 in the 1st Floor Exhibition Hall, a talk-discussion “Musical Theatre Mosaic” will take place – an educational journey that will lead the listener with all senses into the atmosphere of the upcoming concert’s musical programme. The conversation-discussion will feature Agija Ozoliņa-Kozlovska, Chair of the Board of the Operetta Theatre, and soloist Sonora Vaice. Entrance to this event with a concert ticket, free of charge. Limited number of places, application by 22 December by phone 25123145 or e-mail operetesteatris@operetesteatris.lv.

This event is part of the project “Musical Theatre Mosaic” and is organised with the co-financing of the European Social Fund project “Support for Social Entrepreneurship” and the state financial institution “Altum”.

Valentina

Valentina is a woman through whose fate, as in cinema, themes “pass”, which are at the same time a reflection of her life and also encompass the deeper essence of things, drawing an epoch. Opera actress Sonora Vaice will bring to life Valentina's love story, whose heroine is endowed with a warm, vital and witty human essence, despite her experiences.
