Operetta New Year Concert “VIVA!”

Triumph of the New Year of the Operetta

Premiere: 29/12/2024

VIVA! Long live! is the motto of this year’s concert and will allow the listener to “plunge” into a musically sparkling world of festive moods, joyful evenings of music at the Operetta Theatre’s New Year’s Eve concerts.

Excellent dancing soloists, singing dancers and the symphony orchestra of the Operetta Theatre under the direction of conductor ATVARA LAKSTĪGALA.

Paradoxical as it may sound, for many of us December is the brightest time of the year, when nature seems to fall into a deep slumber. Both the timing and meaning of Christmas and the anticipation of the approaching New Year then give our thoughts a broader trajectory and a vertical of enlightenment. Music has always been the most subtle companion of the soul.

This wonderful opera by Franz Lehár: “Judith and The Merry Widow, Imre Kálmán: The Violin of Montmartre, Maritza, Silva.”The Chardash Queen”, “La Bayadere”, Johann Strauss’ “The Gypsy Baron”, “A Night in Venice”, “The Bat”, the lesser-known American composer of Anglo-Irish origin Victor Herbert’s “Marietta the Filthy”, “The Sorceress” and other operettas will inspire and enchant you.

Let’s rejoice and celebrate!

Artistic director Agija Ozoliņa-Kozlovska, choreographer Ieva Kemlere, costume designer Vita Radziņa, multimedia artist-scenographer Ineta Sipunova.

In collaboration with Stagendeco and Sound of Europe.

VIVA! (Long live!) This word is used as an exclamation to express goodwill or approval. The word viva was first mentioned in 1665-75 and literally means: “yes, long live (he)!” (from Italian vivere, Spanish vivir, from Latin vīvere “to live”).

Valentina

Valentina is a woman through whose fate, as in cinema, themes “pass”, which are at the same time a reflection of her life and also encompass the deeper essence of things, drawing an epoch. Opera actress Sonora Vaice will bring to life Valentina's love story, whose heroine is endowed with a warm, vital and witty human essence, despite her experiences.
