A heartfelt commemorative event “Conversations over coffee with Kārlis Pamšem 100” – a tribute to the great actor, director, playwright, storyteller, theatre historian and teacher on his centenary – took place in the hall of Ikšķile Municipality. Actor Bruno Libauers also took part in the talks with the audience, chaired by Professor Jānis Siliņš, and together they recalled the creative legacy of this versatile artist.
Kārlis Pamše has written a bright page in the history of Latvian theatre, from 1966 working as a director and later as the main director at the Riga Operetta Theatre. His list of productions includes such outstanding operettas as Imre Kálmán’s Silva, The Circus Princess, La Bayadere and The Violin of Montmartre, Johann Strauss’ The Gypsy Baron, Raimonds Paul’s Sister Kerry and many others. Pamše’s directing style is characterised by a romantic streak and masterful use of all means of expression in the performing arts.
The artist’s contribution to Latvian theatre was highly appreciated in 2008 when he was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award for his contribution to Latvian theatre. In these reminiscences, participants and audience members got to know not only Pamše’s professional achievements, but also his personality – a great storyteller and author of several books, whose creative legacy continues to inspire new generations of theatre artists.
