The programme, dedicated to the centenary of Latvia, includes songs by Latvian composers that we love and that are popular with the audience. The performance highlights the entire genre spectrum of the Operetta or Musical Theatre repertoire – operetta, musicals, film and theatre.
Youth, sorrow, faith, pain, love, disappointment, pain, joy – that is life. Life? Or theatre? Which is truer – life or theatre? Operetta, musical theatre, lifts us above everyday life, takes us out of it and helps us to live, to survive, to experience and, with a positively sparkling and rich emotional charge, to go further in the game of life.
The tonic freshness of mint, which both invigorates and soothes in different situations in life, embodies the main idea of this performance and runs through this music and dance piece. The always young operetta soloists will tell, sing and dance a musical life story through the language of song, movement and costume and will lead you “Through the City” (Ivars Vīgners), “To Riga, Riga, Riga” (Imants Kalniņš) and “To the Countryside” (Ivars Vīgners).
“In my eyes you read yourself, – together in life you and I must go” says the Silava Waltz (Indulis Kalniņš). Is it also destined for Annelė and Viktor (Elga Īgenberga), and Kerry and Hirstwood (Raimonds Pauls)? “If you are me” (Zigmārs Liepiņš), I am in “Seventh Heaven” (Raimonds Pauls). What happens to our “Soul” (Martins Brauns) when we play this game of life? Is everything “Tip-top” (Raimonds Pauls)?
In any case – “As long as you can, do it!” (Aleksandrs Kublinskis), then “happiness and joy come running” (Raimonds Pauls) and others. Life breathes towards us and opens up countless possibilities! Opportunities that are given only to us, uniquely. Let us accept them with gratitude and joy! Let us celebrate!
The premiere of this performance, in celebration of the Latvian Song and Dance Celebration, on 25 March 2018 at VEF Culture Palace and on 25 April 2018 at Liepāja Theatre, was entitled “Let’s sing, let’s sing!” Now the programme has been modified.
