Operetta – biographical story “Three Stars. Zigfrīds” has received a nomination in the “Surprise” category of the prestigious Latvian Public Media Culture Award Kilograms kultūras 2021.

Composer Platons Buravickis, libretto and poetry by Juris Hiršs. The idea was conceived and produced by Agija Ozoliņa-Kozlovska, Artistic Director of the Operetta Theatre. The new work was commissioned by the Latvian Operetta Foundation.

The first original Latvian operetta of the 21st century, THREE STARS. ZIGFRĪDS has been adapted as a biographical film about the first Latvian Foreign Minister, diplomat Zigfrīds Anna Meierovics (1887 – 1925). He was one of the most brilliant politicians, beloved by the people, who achieved the establishment of the Latvian state de facto on 11 November 1918 and de jure on 26 January 1921.

The operetta is based on true historical events from 1917, when Zigfrīds Anna Meierovics was a member of the Refugee Committee in Moscow, to a tragic accident that prematurely takes the life of the outstanding personality and internationally respected Latvian diplomat.

“The leitmotif of the story is Meierovics ‘’ Dream Room ‘- the forge of his ideas, where his portrait is formed from his dream of a free Latvia – his thoughts and the narrative about the diplomat’s life. The text and poetry by Juris Hirsis, the author of the libretto, depict Meierovics’ life, emphasising his willingness to sacrifice the personal for his ideals and the future of Latvia. Juris Hiršs has managed to combine a portrait of a statesman with a portrait of a man’s life imbued with love. Platon Buravitsky’s music paints in expressive language the storms and loves of the age. For the Latvian and international public, the story of Zigfrīds Anna Meierovics will be emotionally powerful both in the language of music and in the historical truths about the Latvian state, which will educate people about patriotism,” says Dace Micāne-Zālīte, the director.

The film was shot in the complex of LAUTERES manor, Madona region.

PATRON of the production – Ieva & Robin Hull (Switzerland). The production is included in the Latvian centenary programme and is supported by the VKKF programme Latvia 100, Riga City Council, Madona County Council, Latvian Operetta Foundation, ALA Culture Foundation and Juris Cīrulis.
