About the Latvian School Bag Programme
The cultural education programme “Latvian School Bag” provides pupils with a state-funded opportunity to learn about Latvian cultural values and contemporary expressions on a regular basis, thus developing competence in cultural understanding and expression, reducing social inequalities and fostering pride in one’s country and its people.
The Operetta Theatre actively participates in this programme, offering a number of educational and inspiring performances and programmes that introduce young people to the genre of operetta and musical theatre, its history and importance in Latvian culture.
How to apply
To apply for one of our Latvian School Bag performances, please fill in the application form or contact us by e-mail: skolassoma@operetesteatris.lv.
Applications are considered on a first-come, first-served basis, so please apply early. Places may fill up quickly for particularly popular performances and programmes.

Information for teachers
The Operetta Theatre also offers methodological materials for educators to help prepare students for the performance and encourage meaningful discussion afterwards. The materials include information on the operetta genre, the specific performance, as well as suggestions, exercises and questions for discussion with pupils.
The teaching materials are free of charge and are sent to teachers after the application has been approved.
Methodological materials
For each programme, methodological materials have been developed, including:
- Information about the genre and context of the performance/programme
- Suggested preparatory tasks before attending a performance
- Discussion questions after the performance
- Creative tasks related to the themes of the performance
- Additional resources for more in-depth research
