2016. On 29 and 30 December at 18.00, Operetta’s New Year’s Concert will take place at the Culture Palace “Ziemeļblāzma” in Riga.
“Come, listen, little parishioner, to the singing in Vienna!” – with the words from Franz Schubert’s operetta “Trejmeitiņas”, the Latvian Operetta Foundation invites the audience to enjoy the New Year with the music of Vienna, especially the composers of the Strauss dynasty. Operetta is the art of the young, so at the concert you will meet young and talented Latvian soloists from Latvia and abroad, as well as guests from France.
Viennese operetta dance music, Operetta soloists, dancers and orchestra… The enchantingly beautiful voices of the soloists, set to music from the “golden foundation” of world operetta, will create a thrilling festive mood! The festive programme will include melodious lyrical and wistful pieces, as well as fiery and entertaining pieces – songs, arias and duets. With the popular music of the Strauss dynasty, the Operetta Orchestra brings the beautiful New Year’s Eve tradition of the Viennese symphony to Latvia. The concert will also feature popular music by Paul Abraham, Cole Porter and Imre Kalman. As usual, this programme will include a glimpse into the melodica of next year’s new production.
The concert will feature a pair of soloists from France – the soprano Silga Tīruma, already known in Latvia, and her husband, tenor Pierre Soldano; Latvian mezzo-soprano Helena Sorokina from Graz in Austria, soprano Laura Purena, who recently became a laureate of the Inese Galante Talents competition; Anastasija Vorobjova, who has already debuted in the Foundation’s operetta productions and the well-known and beloved baritone Nauris Indzeris.
The concert will also feature conductor Guntars Bernāts and an operetta orchestra, as well as dancers. The concert will be hosted by musicologist Liene Jakovļeva.
